Customer Support System “nightmare”

Yesterday, I was trying to find for a good open source customer support ticketing system to be implemented for our company. I found a perl-based Request Tracker by Best Practical Solutions. Since I was able to implement Movable Type for this blog system, I was thinking, working with perl (installations) isn’t that bad at all. And so I went.

Twelve hours! Sad part, I was an inch close to finishing it when I found out that one perl module (Mason) would keep on crashing under Apache. Is it my being a PHP-guy and non-Perl advocate? Or is this software really created with a “built in” hard installation process so you can sign up for Best Practical’s instalation service that will cost you $200/hour, minimum of 4 hours = $800!

At the end of my tiring and frustrating day, I tried to search for a PHP alternative from ScriptSearch.com. I found this PHP-based support ticketing, open-source script called osTicket. Would you believe I was able to install it for 5 minutes!? It may not be as powerful as Request Tracker, but hey, it’s expandable! It would be a great job to add functionalities to this already good software.

And then, our new support system . . .

Link you, link me!

Linking each other’s sites does 2 things: you refer your viewers to another site or blog that you feel they can benefit from, and, it helps the sites get crawled faster by search engines like Google. I just added this portion on my front page. I started with Browpau’s site. While it is down right now, I am confident he will be back soon. I hope Pau sees this post and adds my site to his list, too. :-) Link you, link me!

Home Wrecker Internet

Internet affairs can be dangerous. It is fun flirting over the internet, but it sure is damaging to “real flesh” relationships, at worst fatal.

Google keywords analysis

It’s always fun analysing your site logs. Since I’m chopping my site into two — this one, ArnoldGamboa.com (should contain my personal stuff) and SabbathInChrist.com (for my spiritual journey and research materials on Sabbath), I just thought of analyzing my logs one last time for the previous combined domain name sites. The search engine keywords are interesting.

The keywords relatated to Hillsong such as “Darlene Zchech” and “Hillsongs” returned the most number probably because of my article entitled “Extravagant Worship: My Hillsong Experience” and several lyrics of their songs.

Some funny entries: “how do i activate a yahoo account after its been deactivated”. I wonder what this guy found on my site. :-)

There are other keywords that are used to access the site, but these two really caught my attention: “catholic doctrinal issues”, “leave catholic church”, “how to leave catholic church”. I am amazed to know that there were indeed people struggling to know how to “properly” leave a denomination — Catholism or otherwise — with probably less friction on relationships among other reasons. I’m in good company. Send me an Instant Messenger if you need help. I was not a Catholic, but certainly, I have gone thru the same experience. One thing’s for sure, though: leaving denomination amounts to nothing if it wasn’t a relationship with Jesus you’re heading to.
