Bro. Eddie broke my heart

Watch this, then let me tell you why Bro. Eddie just broke my heart.

Let me lay out the ground work.

1. I’m an evangelical Christian.

2. Bro. Eddie is a leader of one of the biggest evangelical groups here in the Philippines.

3. While I’m not part of the Jesus is Lord Church which he founded, I look up to him as a brother and a great leader of the Church.

4. Apolo Quiboloy’s “Kingdom…”, on the other hand, is NOT an evangelical church. In fact, his church is largely considered a cult of Christianity among evangelical apologists. Reason for this includes his claim of being the Son of God (in Gentile body, blasphemous in my opinion), their works-oriented salvation doctrine, Oneness (as against Trinitarianism), and exclusivity (even claiming that Davao — where their headquarters is located — is the new Jerusalem). He has all the characteristics to be tagged by evangelicals as a dangerous cult.

5. I can respect Quiboloy as a citizen of the Philippines and truly a leader with many followers. But I will never call him a “preacher of righteousness”.

Bro. Eddie, as most of you know, is campaigning for the presidency.

Seeing this man of God compromise his belief, the gospel of Jesus Christ, to which this man from Davao has adulterated, breaks my heart. He is not only loosing his witness, he is also loosing the witness of the entire evangelical Christianity in the Philippines.

What else can Bro. Eddie do just to win the votes of the people?

I’m calling on Bro. Eddie to repent of this lie, hunger for power and for bringing shame to the name of Jesus Christ, the true Son of God.

I am a JIL member. And I too was disappointed in what BRO. Eddie had said. I also think that Bro. Eddie should not had joined politics cause it would only taint his reputation. Now that Bro. Eddie has lost, I think all of us christians, whichever donomination we belong, should reconcile and try our best to uproot the problems in our country. I know to that Bro. Eddie (even though he lost the election) will do his best for helping our country rise and regain its reputation as one of the best country in the world. I am appealing to all of the christians in this blog and all over the Philippines to put aside our differnces and let us make a new beginning for the Philippines. Sana po wag na po tayong magkabahabahagi. Laht po tayo ay magkakapatid sa sa pnanampalataya and all of us have responsibility in making our country a great nation.

Also, I would like to apologize sa mga tao po na nasaktan sa ilang comments dito sa blogs na ito. Let us now forgive each other and start a new beginning.

God Bless us all, God Bless the Philippines.

Reading between the lines, you are implying that I'm making my own judgment here and I'm not. The Apostle Paul is the one who wrote 1st and 2nd Corinthians and what he wrote is still much true in our "wicked and perverse" generation. I posted the Bible verses above because most of the comments in this blog reflect people's spiritual beliefs and I just wanted to reveal the Truth.
  • Joe
He didn't compromise his faith... That means you believed he meant what he said... That's dangerous!!!

Ecumenism (referring to initiatives aimed at greater religious unity or cooperation) is purely not biblical.
2 Corinthians 6:15 "What accord has Christ with Belial? Or what portion does a believer share with an unbeliever?"
1 Corinthians 10:21 "You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons. Shall we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than he?"

Majority of the Filipinos have already voted as of this moment. Are we ready to listen again to what the Bible, the infallible Word of God, the source of all Truth has to say?
  • amen
All who has wrong thought about Bro Eddie you should repent!

While all seem to have lost trust on the COMELEC, I’d like to think that they deserve a chance to prove themselves.

They said they are positive they can pull this off. I’d say, let them. Let’s just run after them later if it’s proven wrong.

For the past 3 days, pessimism is all over the place — on the internet, on local news, even probably in your nearby “tambayan”. I just think that rather than creating and supporting conspiracy theories, blame people and sow news that can create fear, why don’t we just step back for a while, pray and see how we can make this happen, all together as a nation.

Whatever you blog about, post on twitter or even tell “mamang taxi driver”, it matters. Let’s choose to have hope — in our words and in our actions.

Let’s pray for our nation and give our best for our country. Remember that God is sovereign. He is our ultimate hope.

My small contribution as we take our weekend rest and cast our vote on Monday.

( At last...it's nice to hear blessings coming again from a brother's mouth..;') I hope we can all find the courage to humbly accept our mistakes too..and for that I would like to apologize if I had offended anybody in this regard. Blessings!)

Pasenya na po sa mga opinions being posted here, throwing of words unto each other, maybe impairing and disgracing us christians. Para po sa natitisod..forgive us all. Sorry din Sir Arnold kasi we have to speak. We're also humans. It's just that we only want it to be fair with the man kasi wether you intended it or not, the effects are quite obvious. It's not because he committed a mistake, that would make him less of a good christian and a good person kasi everybody make mistakes .And no matter what, he can never be a perfect president if ever .After all this is not about him only and any religion... this is about our beloved country and the changes we need. Directly or not, this is creating walls of division, an impact and a damage to us all.
In the end, may the divine wisdom guide us all on the election day. God bless us!
  • diana
I am not campaigning for him, I just want you guys to also see his good points too againts his imperfections. Infact I have christian friends too who would not vote for him and yet I do not persuade them because I know i should respect their opinions even though sometimes I somehow could not exactly understand why... when they are also experiencing Christ in their lives. I believe for as long as I count on to God's wisdom, I will never go wrong. And why worry? When I can pray?
  • diana
I am not a fan neither a member of JIL church and don't know him personally but I am voting for Bro Eddie because 1) he is capable of holding the position as a president (he is intelligent and smart, an economist and an educator and a great leader and his platform speaks for him)- and thank God he happens to be god fearing! (he's a christian and God's servant)- he's trustworthy and hates dishonest gain (his track record convinced me) -Exodus 18:21. I will no longer state here my many other reasons and basis of voting for him except that when he talks, I could also personally see his sincerety and his passion for change and burning love for our country. Yes it seems like he's so eagerly wanting to win, and be the president but can we blame him? He needs power anyway para i-overhaul ang naghihingalo nating kalagayan...
  • diana
Very well said, dhenz and renji...I salute those people na mapagpatawad, hindi mapanghusga at maunawain. It's not that I do not understand your points Sir Arnold and do not respect your choice of candidate..i just want to give Bro eddie the benefit of the doubt..a chance.Besides, kahit saan kasi tingnan, there is really a christian way of dealing with this..God bless you still!
I've watch his answers on this issue, i hope you guys too will..
  • Renji
May point ka dun Bro. Arnold. tanungin mo kaya si Bro. Eddie personally? Imposible ba yun? Maybe that would heal your broken heart? I'm not here to defend Bro. Eddie.
  • Renji
Di sapat yung manalangin at tumunganga.
  • Itsygo
Guess what?..Christians discussing politics and endorsing candidates? ..hmmm..smells fishy...ang bantot! And this is supposed to guide God's people in his choices? How sad...
  • Dhenz
Bro..wag nating patunayan na tamang lahat ang sinabi ni Mr. Gamboa about those who agree with Bro. Eddie's supporters on this issue. Of course..may tama din naman siya. We only have one God and we cannot assert na tayo lang ang tama since we can only see God's righteousness according to each one's limitations. Let us also pray for him na lang. God will judge our actions in the end..peace!
  • Dhenz
How true..but this is a 'partisan's blog'..Christians are supposed to deal with issues too..and be balanced in thier judgment especially when dealing with issues that concern his people. And guess what?...this is like any other politician's blog my friend. How can you easily agree with someone who particularly endorses specific candidates? Would God even agree to someone like that? I think he doesn't really hate politics..in fact..he loves it by even endorsing one...now, would you want somebody to be fooled with that? Opinion ko lang bro.. it's quite easy to judge..but we all read the same scripture too..I mean this while referring to our brothers. I'm not for Bro. Eddie..it just so happened that he closely fits what God wants when choosing leaders..God bless!
  • Dhenz
    Well said...bro.........
  • mean
@ay naku...who are you to draw that line...just a question. sabi nga ni Christ, unang bumato ang walang kasalanan. ang ending naman nitong vid na to. As a christian, well, i mean, assuming you are...we need to have that confidence in God...hinde yung nagpapakalawyer tayo kay Christ. Eh kayang kaya nmng gawin ni Christ yun dahil He is the true and living God.
  • Renji
To influence you..change your mind and perhaps divide our votes. For whatever reason he really has...siya lang ang higit na nakakaalam. Basahin niyo pu uli..ang kandidato ni Mr. Gamboa, eh si Noynoy..I have nothing against Noynoy..he just belived that Noynoy is better than Bro. Eddie because he believed so..let's just respect that. Actually, sumikat siya because of this blog..I thought he was also doing this for God's glory...kakalungkot. Why do i hate politics? Kahit kasi sa church..maraming politicians! And worse? What we need is a real statesman..kaya kay God ako..at si bro. Eddie ang pinakamalapit sa katotohanan!..period.
  • Dhenz
Naiintindihan kita Bro..pero yung sinasabi mo na nasa transcript..can be interpreted depende sa perspective. I know you won't agree..and I admit that Bro. Eddie had a confusing statement..pero how about this blog? Was this really to correct Bro. Eddie per se?..or just to campaign against our him? Politics din ang tawag dito bro..just in case you didn't know..and besides..Bro. Arnold deliberately admitted that he supported Bro. Eddie's candidacy on 2004..and that is also..politics! In that respect, we should also give Bro. Eddie the benefit of the doubt..just as we believe that this supposedly exposition came from a sincere heart. So let us not judge him just as easily. It would have been different if Mr. Arnold Gamboa told us that he was against Bro. Eddie running..just like I believed before..but this time?..it is obviously a different story. Either way, we are being swayed to a particular side..another case of 'partisan politics' perhaps? Gusto ko lang namang sabihin..kung malinis yung intention ng blogger...may proper way to deal with that. Hindi ganito. Panahon ng eleksiyon ngayon..our single vote counts. Who told us that Bro. Eddie is not vulnerable? Eddie. That's the problem with politics..gusto..yung controversial..gusto yung sensational..gawain ba ni Lord yun? Marami tayong Christian leaders na ganyan..sad but true..and I don't mean Mr. Gamboa in this sense.
  • Dhenz
Ok..I respect your opinion. I'm glad you reply. I pray that you could also have the courage to bring your concern to Bro. Eddie's people. I wish I can also call you as a 'preacher of righteousness' but it seemed you would not want me to be calling you the same..maybe because I don't know you personally? It's easy to preach and guise under the word 'opinion' in case you didn't know? That's why we will all be accountable with our actions someday. Words can be mere words but I know God knows you and your heart better than anyone. Oops..I also know you didn't have to defend yourself either? You're a student too..surely you had a different opinion with mine. There is nothing wrong with your vigilance but let me remind you Sir..that self-righteousness can be blinding too. You should not get too involve with politics for you understand well that it can be tainted anytime. Tao pa rin ang mga leaders natin..just like you..I hope yung ginagamit mu pung panukat ngayon ay parehas din ng panukat na ginagamit natin sa sarili natin. By the way, I find some of your comments sa video malicious..pasencya na pu..pero opinion ko lang din yun..God bless..
  • rose

I am also a christian but not from JIL. I voted for bro. Eddie last 2004 and will still vote for him this coming election despite this. Why?Simply because I want to put my trust on the creator rather than the creation.Because...I do not rely on the person alone but on God's power. Also because.. I value my vote in as much as I value our country and my niece' and nephews' future that I cannot vote for anyone else, worse than him. I cannot vote for a God fearing/religious leader who is not capable neither vote for a capable but not real God fearing. It's also matter of choosing the lesser evil and seeing the bigger picture.
So sad to see why this thing had to happen..but what's really heartbreaking here?Is that we became divided rather than unified for a goal to lift up our beloved Philippines...
A few days more and it will be election day...why don't we just sincerely pray and kneel down to God instead to have an honest and peaceful election? That God would bless our nation and set it free from its present situation? and so as well us all?Can we?
  • demz
The video actually broke my heart too if I may say.Somehow Bro. Eddie dissappointed me a bit , to be honest. He seemed to have been just corrupted by politics. And although I agree with Rachel So, dhez, jess, and all others' exact explanation to Bro eddie's statement and words during his speech, if we are to scrutinize that every word he said...still he compromised his faith and it really saddened me much because he sinned.
But who does not?Who is not sinning anyway? And who are we to judge?
Ang alam ko lang po kasi nagkakasala din ako at nagkakamali kaya I would just rather forgive him than judge him as God have forgiven me. I would rather forget it and give him a chance. After all, hindi ko rin naman alam 100 percent exactly what he was thinking and feeling and what is really in his heart...do we all know?God only knows!
Above everything else God has the only power to put him in the position and has the only authority to judge.Wether Bro eddie made a mistake and will make mistakes being the president if ever..is his accountability to God.
  • Concerned Citizen
Be careful with your words mga kapatid,..its powerfull..just like a two edged sword.. Don't you all know that we are all accountable for our words and actions? Wag tayong judgemental at wag din tayong panatic! Pray for wisdom and vote from the heart... Let us all behave like what we claim to be.. not for ourselves but for those who look unto us as servants of God, so they may not stumble. May God guide us all! :-)
  • I supported Bro. Eddie in 2004, yes. I'm not supporting him now simply because I believe he's not the best person for the job. That's all it is.
  • Dhenz
By the way Sir..I want to add..it is it true that you were once an avid supporter of Bro. Eddie's previous candidacy? So what happened?..gotten tired of politics?..or politicking? Which is which pu? So perhaps you want to tell us now that the leader of JIL is no longer fit to even serve God as a preacher because he has been corrupted by the system? Tama pu ba? I just wanna clarify that because nalulungkot din ako to see a lot of our brothers becoming so obsessively involved with politics without them realizing it. I have always been 'against' with the church becoming so worldly and the world becoming so religiously fanatic. And then there were guys like you.. who convinced me before. BUT it was quite clear to me that I should never put my trust in one man, much less put my whole trust with Bro. Eddie alone. Yet his influence as a leader can indeed become overwhelming at one point...perhaps leaving us with one choice..are you for Bro. Eddie as a candidate or not? If not..then that's ok..perhaps your waiting for someone else and I can't blame you. I guess we all are...we should. But for the mean time..I know I have a choice...and he shall be accountable to God like all of us. I say again..I'm not from JIL. My family had differing opinions about him running..but I am still convinced. I only trust God para di ako matisod.
  • non-voter
  • Dhenz,

Since you directed the question to me, I'd like to answer your questions in the most straight-forward way that I can.

    1. I'm not against Bro. Eddie running this election.

    2. I'm not against him winning this election. And while I will not vote for him, if ever he wins, I will support him wholeheartedly as a citizen of this nation.

    3. I'm a student of the Word of God.

    4. I don't belong to a separatist group. I belong to mainline evangelical groups, specifically I'm one of the leaders of LifeChurch Makati, a non-denominational, evangelical church.

    5. If you're asking me what I would do if I'm in the place of Bro. Eddie, I will still go and even congratulate their organization for their years of existence. BUT, I will never call their leader "preacher of righteousness" especially if the guy I'm talking about claims to be the SON OF GOD and a dangerous cult according to my brothers in Christ.

    6. I believe that Bro. Eddie is sincerely motivated by love to country upon deciding to run for president. But that only point that I have ever raised in this blog is simple: you may be sincere, yes. then do your stuff and campaign. But do something that will cause the people of God be disgraced. Don't let the name of Jesus be maligned. Don't call someone a "preacher of righteousness" if he is claiming to be the SON of God.
  • jugdement day
It is really great to see when Christians themselves throw mud at each other. How nice.
  • Dhenz
    To Mr. Gamboa:

Sir, Pede ko pu bang linawin yung stand nyo with several issues so that whatever you post here wont be a little misleading for your followers? It's not yet the election as of today so I'm wondering..(1. ) Are you against Bro. Eddie running this election..or (2. ) Are you against him winning this election? (I still think that these two are two different things. )(3.) Are you a theologian or an expert in the bible? (as I'm wondering as to whether I should call you a "preacher of righteousness" too) (4.) Do you belong to a separatist group like the rest? ( I mean those who call themselves Christians yet don't usually allow others to join them just as 'easily' or those too legalistic in terms of dogmas, doctrines, etc. to allow other 'Christians' to join? (I have nothing against them just as I respect your every right to post your supposed to be 'exposition' on every church leader you know.) I'm asking this question to clarify some things to the others who might have a different opinion with yours. (5.) If you happen to be the same leader in this video and invited to speak to these people whom you blatantly called "belonging to a cult", would you have stood up for God and announce through the microphone yourself that they have been living a lie..and still try to win them?..not just in the elections..but also..for Christ? (I felt that your confusing politics with religion again and I sincerely doubt that they should be mix simultaneously like what you have done here in your blog.) But I trust that you only want to say that you are against a 'man of God' like Bro. Eddie (this is called 'benefit of the doubt' ..that each one of us deserve, right?) joining 'dirty, compromised politics', right? (6.0 Do you sincerely believe that bro. Eddie is indeed joining politics just because he was running for presidency?..or could he ever run the presidency without really joining politics? Please don't confuse these things Sir because you may say a lot about a man you don't know (it's relatively easy) and it could greatly affect a lot of people at the same time. As I understand, sometimes.. a man would even choose not to defend himself for it is also said that no one knows our hearts other than us, ourselves and God himself, am I correct? I say this because watching this video along with your 'emotional' position on the matter could really do some serious damage..and in my opinion, merely confuses things on matters of position and opinion. I'd like to believe that I'm a Christian as well but I want God to be my judge and not just some 'politicking' Christians..and I don't refer to you in this sense. Please don't judge me if I'm being active here because I believe that this is my best way to show my love and concern for this country and that I thought... as a matter of opinion that it is high time that we Christians really do something about this country..and sadly again..we also had to talk about our SINGLE VOTE and this election. After all, I've never seen 'Christians' as deeply involved in this country until today..that's a start. GOD's PERMISSIVE WILL perhaps?
  • Dhenz
I can't really miss the opportunity of talking to my brothers like you..so as to convince them to win this election for God. I am not for Bro. Eddie bro...that is..if we are talking about him as 'someone' who is beyond reproach in terms of his teachings and doctrines. I'm a believer of God's sound doctrine though (Titus 1:9)..and in this case, I only want to see Bro. Eddie as an instrument of God - before, today, and even after the 2010 election. I can still see your point clearly.. especially since, I'm not from JIL myself. But just like everybody else who pose himself as a Christian, I don't understand why Christians like you would not choose him in this election either. Neither can I agree that we can only choose the 'lesser of many evils' every time we talk about electing our leaders. I know what is Bro. Eddie doing in this sense..as he was trying to win an election. I don't think getting them more distant either through 'word' issues would make better sense in this case. In fact we have been building those walls ever since we started asserting ourselves as supposed to be "Christians"..while the evil around us grow even more powerful and persistent. As he is a man of God..my trust is not with him but with God. We were all supposed to be guided by the same Holy Spirit..are we not? Yet I also doubt God would agree if we would just watch and let evils triumph in the government..instead of doing something for this country that could truly make the "biggest" difference. After all..while nothing is too difficult for God..my God Himself should also be practical. I can't see why he can't use Bro. Eddie for this mission..and sad to say..he really had to make that tough decision..as only a sincere and obedient heart like his could understand. Too much is at stake here..JIL's name?..evangelical denomination's name in the Philippines?..his very own integrity and credibility?..and I guess you're right to say..the Christian's name?.But why should he be afraid? Why should we worry? He hopes in God..why can't we? After all..this is all about taking a 'stand' right? And being a Christian is still all about taking a stand..which is much easier said than done. This is what truly breaks my heart.
  • mike
Eddie bago ka mag-oh my gulay jan!
  • Mike
Si Kris Aquino nga, all out sa kapatid niya e.
Paano naman ako naging mali to separate "spirit of campaign" and "doctrinal compromise"? Ipaliwanag mo nga?
  • jaydee
Him...He can always do that. He is a true and living God, He knows. He knows arguments creates separation. so we need to cancel them all out.

Ang gusto nya eto: He wants us to become His discples, live and share God's word and show "unconditional" love to ALL. People just like them, who are lost.

Hinde perpekto. Pero binigyan tayo ng second chance out of His grace and love.and we as Christians, we have the sole responsibility to pray for our brothers. Nagkamali man si Bro. eddie or hinde...lahat naman nadadaan sa prayers.

Eventhough we don't know his true intentions, compared to other candidates, He knows the true and living and was able to experience HIm in his life.In other words, Kung manalo siya, at gumawa siya ng kalokohan, sa Diyos pa rin naman siya mananagot.Lahat ng confidence ko na kay God. So bakit ako mag-aalala. and that's the reason why im voting for him.

Wag tayong magsubmit sa gusto ng kaaway to divide and even use God's word againts each other.
    that's unnecessary.and way too cheap.

God even told us to love even our enemies.
  • des
ok lang yan...tao pa rin naman sila...created by God...maybe they are lost, but they too still deserved to be treated with respect. Love the Lord our God and love one another d ba.

Nung sinabi ni Bro Eddie na Kingdom of Christ, i think He is referring to Jesus Christ Kingdom, not the name of the group.

and i think Si Quiboloy, he is also using the bible to teach, pero sabi nga satin ni God...kunin ang mabuti, itapon ang masama. If He is teaching something else, siya naman ang mananagot. i think unfair for Bro. Eddie to jugded him because of this "so-called association campaign". IN my opinion, hInde ko makita na masama yun, though pwede nga nya na ikabawas yun dahil for sure mami-missinterpret cya ng mga tao... but i think its ok...na mangampanya sa lahat...pano siya mananalo, kung di nya gagawin yun. same as with other candidates as well. So i think, that's the reason kung bakit kinuconsider pa rin ni Bro. eddie kapatid si quiboloy.and preacher still. Besides were all brothers and sisters in Christ name naman.

ewan ko lang ha.just my opinion.

but why should we worry, all we need is to pray and ask God's guidance.and as Christians, that's our role responsibility.

Psalms 118:8 It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in man.

Proverbs 16:25 There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.

Proverbs 12:15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to advice.

Proverbs 28:26 Whoever trusts in his own mind is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom will be delivered.

Proverbs 17:24 The discerning sets his face toward wisdom, but the eyes of a fool are on the ends of the earth.

Proverbs 17:10 A rebuke goes deeper into a man of understanding than a hundred blows into a fool.

Proverbs 18:2 A fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only in expressing his opinion.

Proverbs 26:4 Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest you be like him yourself.

Proverbs 26:5 Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own eyes.

Proverbs 26:12 Do you see a man who is wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.

Proverbs 20:3 It is an honor for a man to keep aloof from strife, but every fool will be quarreling.

Proverbs 29:9 If a wise man has an argument with a fool, the fool only rages and laughs, and there is no quiet.

Proverbs 23:9 Do not speak in the hearing of a fool, for he will despise the good sense of your words.

Ecclesiastes 1:9-10 What has been is what will be, and what has been done is what will be done, and there is nothing new under the sun. Is there a thing of which it is said, "See, this is new"? It has been already in the ages before us.
