Holy anger

I’m angry! Really.

I’m angry when I see that the country is going down. I’d like to do something about it by voting for the people I know would be good leaders and by paying the right taxes.

I’m angry when I see kids as little as 2 years old roaming around the metro streets begging for money when I see their demon possessed parents lying around, allowing their children be exposed in these kinds of hazards. I do hope to make a difference some day and do something about it.

I’m angry when I see people going to hell when followers of Christ are not doing something about it, when we don’t even care telling them about Jesus and his offer of grace. I’m angry! I’M ANGRY! Big time!

Yesterday, this “holy anger” burst out suddenly when I chatted with an Adventist pastor friend — make that best friend, former college roommate, buddy, really really close like a brother friend. I love this guy. But I just can’t stomach the foolishness of his church and my former church. It has done and has been doing damage to people’s lives by its legalistic teachings and practices. Yet he is still hopeful.

If you want to peak on our conversation, read on.

SDA Pastor friend: By the way I have good news for you. But promise you will try and attend.
me: sure, i’ll try. what about
SDA Pastor friend: Mt. Dora church, a contemporary Adventist church is coming over. Actually this coming week na. By Monday and Tuesday we have prayer and faith conference at CLC. Then starting this Saturday night till Friday they will conduct praise and worship at Pasay. I want to check this out. It’s a program of CLC.
me: hmm.. who’s the leader?
SDA Pastor friend: it’s one of the fastest growing Adventist church in the states. Even the CLC president and NPUM are bit worried as to their impact. But somehow Pastor Casimiro (just like me) managed to use his influence in Pasay church to give them the chance.
me: i see. that’s good news.
not to throw water into the fire…. but…
in my observation, being contemporary for the sake of being contemporary is not enough. people come to church and lives are being changed NOT by the method but by the message.
so, to be straight about it…
me: kahit na you have a rock band, but the messages will be legalistic…
1844, end time events, scare tactic non-sense.
you’ll only produce contemporized version of pharisees. nothing more, nothing less.
SDA Pastor friend: you still believe this church to be a cult, ha! Walter Martin doesn’t. Give God a chance. he he he. I might just attend Monday na when I am in Manila na.
SDA Pastor friend: All churches have their flaws. This church have learned from its mistakes specially the approaches. But so do baptist hell and fire brimstone preaching.
me: i hope so. last time i heard though, the denom has not corrected its mistake on 1844 even if contemporary theology cannot deny its HUGE mistakes.
and until now, you guys are dishonestly preaching it.
SDA Pastor friend: I am not lost, bro. And this church is bringing souls to heaven. You cannot discount that.
dishonest? that’s a big word. I still love you bro!
me: :) context. most adventist pastors already know the errors of 1844. but still they preach it.
how do you call it?
SDA Pastor friend: we are all in a journey. And I believe this church is still doing more good than harm. Although I really sympathize with your disappointing experience in this church.
me: forgive me for being so bullet straight this time, i’m having this holy anger.
SDA Pastor friend: Ooopps! I still can defend 1844 without using E.G. Writings. But what’s the big fuss.
me: sure, i believe that the denom does bring people to heaven. but honestly? with its legalistic teachings and practices, there are MORE people getting lost than saved.
proof?
SDA Pastor friend: I still believe this church has a divine commission. I have been on a journey. And I still keep on coming back to it and discover my flaws and appreciate it inspite of its imperfections.
me: buddy, i appreciate that, and I know WE all have flaws. pero sana naman, i correct yung mga obvious na flaws.
you want proof that MORE people are being lost THAN being saved because of the SDA denom?
I visited my local church 2 months ago. ALL the members there are LOST — I can tell. that’s all 30 of them. They had a crusade and talked about the 1844, sabbath seal sunday beast non-sense, no grace teachings at all — they baptized 5.
where do you think these 5 new people will go? Hell!
sorry. that’s holy anger my friend.
Now tell me… what does this denomination “on a journey” doing to correct this?
SDA Pastor friend: you have to look deeper.
me: how deeper can you further look, ardie. do you see what’s happening to these people’s lives?
you may be looking at the denominational level, i’m looking at each person’s lives!
and it ANGERS me! big time!
SDA Pastor friend: sure i know you anger. Been there! done that! I have been with more Adventist than you. And I have seen their lives. There are legalists, yes! But there are transformed lives whose trust is entirely on God.
me: agree.
but “doing more harm than good” is a better term, at least at this point in time.
SDA Pastor friend: anyways this will not end. I’ll get back to you later. I have to eat lunch na.
me: sure. ;) you still love me, don’t you?
:)
SDA Pastor friend: doing more harm is not for me to tell. Let God be in control. Of course I still love you. In fact I am blessed to have you because you keep me connected with people outside the remnant :)
me: :)
sure, if that’s my role, i’ll be there for you :D
SDA Pastor friend: let’s eat na bro. In heaven I will be glad that you no longer see me as an Adventist but as a brother. he he he
me: yep yep!
;)
SDA Pastor friend: happy eating! signing out
me: see you around.

Adventists who get saved are because of hte grace of God, and are saved IN SPITE the whole package of theological nonsense and errors that the Seventh Day Adventist Church calls its “end-time message.”
