The beatitudes, not the 10 Commandments

KURT VONNEGUT ONCE OBSERVED, “FOR SOME reason, the most vocal Christians among us never mention the Beatitudes. But, often with tears in their eyes, they demand that the Ten Commandments be posted in public buildings. And of course that’s Moses, not Jesus. I haven’t heard one of them demand that the Sermon on the Mount, the Beatitudes, be posted anywhere.” – Manuel Quezon III in his Inquirer article.

Excellent point! I’ve noticed that myself. It reminds me of a scripture passage that prophesied the law would be given out of Mt. Zion. Isaiah 2:3 says, “And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.” I believe this talks about the Sermon on the Mount…the law given by Jesus Christ. As Christ followers, we should be focused on that, instead of the Ten Commandments.

Hello! (again) This is not to you but to Manuel Quezon the Third and all people who agree to this. The 10 commandments is The Law of GOD. The Beatitudes are also important but these are in accordance with the 10 commandments. With peacemaking, you can’t murder. With being meek/ humble, you can’t be proud (making yourself an idol of yourself). And so on. Remember, all of GOD’s words are in harmony with each other and they WILL NEVER contradict one another.
