Gmail on WAP

While searching for a WAP enabler for WordPress, I stumbled upon this blog entry. And here’s a good news for those who rely on Gmail for most of their emailing life. While on the road, you can actually check your emails thru WAP. There’s a small PHP script that has to be uploaded to a web server. Now, that’s clever.

    I’ve been checking on gmail’s status in the past hour – i haven’t been able to open gmail.com .

    Then i stumbled upon some news on Gmail via WAP.

    I’ve tried gmail.slashphone.com , http://www.dblookup.info/wp-wap.php , uneasysilence.com/gmobile — none of them work so far. Or maybe i didn’t figure out how to make it work.

    Paano nga ba? I use a WAP/Web/GPRS enabled SmartPhone via Addict mobile.

    Unfortunately, I stopped pursuing it. I tried to install the scripts to my server and it didn’t work.

    Well, the day I posted that entry… the script was working on my server with some minor fixes. I had it live for visitors to test. But later I noticed it left traces of personal information on my logs so I removed the live version.

    I can test host it for you again, if you are interested.

    i have Nokia 3220. I was able to access my gmail.
    Just register ur gmail account at http://www.gmailwireless.com and click on the confirmation mail that it sends you.

    Then bookmark http://wap.gmailwireless.com and access it to check & send ur mails.

    My account works properly now. ;-)

    Yep, gmailwireless.com works perfectly. Only thing is – if you’re using a mail client (thunderbird, outlook) remember not to have the mail archived in gmail in your settings or else you don’t have mail on wap :)

    gmail wireless worked untill 3 days ago, when it started giving me the following message:

    ERROR: Gmail Wireless: not really connected to Gmail. Please signin again.

    did I do something wrong to my phone, or is it from the site? and is there anything I can do to fix this problem? or is there any site that works?

    I got the same error message a few days ago. You can still use the old version by replacing wap.gmailwireless.com with wap2.gmailwireless.com (add the ’2′ after ‘wap’).

    Still, if anyone could tell me how to install gmobile I’d greatly appreciate it. I copied the files to my server, now what?

    I started getting the same problem on my Nokia 3220 last week. I’d greatly appreciate it if someone could help out here… I tried Alex’s solution. It doesn’t work. :-(

    if you got a gmail account you can foward all the mail from it to a yahoo account, and yahoo is accesable frm WAP, so u ave all the mail of google on a yahoo intaface.

    Tried this out, found WAP to be too unbearable. I eventually found: http://www.movamail.com for all my GMail needs. Check it out, it’s great.

    It takes me to the login page, but when I enter my info and hit send it says Data Server not available.

    Hi huys! I have a strange problem. My mobile was able to read m.gmail.com yesterday, but since I checked the box: remember me! it simply doesn’t work. Cannot connect to the m.gmail.com site, and writes: “unknown response”.
    Can anyone help in this problem?

    gmail works on SSL. Most mobile cariers allow use of only on port 80 or using proxy thats why it will not work. a option that can work is using a WAP script using IMAP options of GMAIL that allows use of SSL. searching for it still….
