New Covenant Symposium

I finally accepted an invitation from an Adventist-apologist friend I met over The Bereans forum sometime early this year. At first I am hesitant to speak about the New Covenant Theology in a symposium sponsored by Adventist Layman’s Bible Institute in Sta. Mesa Manila. Reasons are simple: first of, the audience will be there not to learn and see if this theological construct — which directly opposes the Adventist theology on the covenants, moreso with the Sabbath — has some light in it. They are going to be there to learn how to rebut the arguments. Secondly, the people who’s going to be present are composed of high profile laymen and pastors within the Adventist circle. I’m a simple student of the Word. And lastly, being there to preach the gospel of Jesus is going to be out of the question, it simply isn’t the place.

I prayed about it. And I believe the Holy Spirit is convicting me to proceed on, not with the purposes I mentioned above but purely for educational purposes. I think most of the audience are not aware of the New Covenant peace expressed in Jesus. I believe that creating an awareness is the first step to those who will be present. Most might reject it, but some might present some questions in their minds. I leave the results to the Holy Spirit.

I thank Pastor Dale Ratzlaff, author of the book Sabbath In Christ, for his email I received today — in his encouragements and prayers.

Btw, the symposium is on Nov. 30, Sunday.

I was a reformed-Presbyterian christian for 26 years. Attended ATS at Timog, QC for 2 years . I did not finished my MDiv there. From 1988 to 1994 I was initiated to the 5 points of Christian reconstructionism of North, Jordan, Rushdoony and Bahnsen. Being an admirer of the works of Brinsmead regarding Justification during his evangelical phase- in questioned the Christian Sabbath enshrined in our Westminster Confession of Faith. This is also led me to question the “tithing” teaching as taught by North and no less than Pastor Ed Lapiz. This year, May- I stumbled into Greg Welty’s article regarding infant baptism-which I finally realized is a Judaistic legacy of the Old Covenant inside the Presbyterian understanding of Baptism. I was an elder of the church for 15 years. I was suspended from teaching for just holding (not advocating) to the teaching of “believer’s baptism” in our church. And for the past 4 months I just realized that those 3 teachings I am against is combated in toto by New Covenant theology. So I am brushing up with reading of Lehrer, Reiseinger and others. If you need help in your foray- I am available-since I ma no longer preaching and teaching during Sundays. I transferred my family to a Baptist church- but I understand that many baptist are just culturally baptist but does not know their baptist theology thoroughly. Meaning-they are still preaching tithing and the Ten commandments-instead of the Law of Christ.
